HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Tourism Board has unveiled a Facebook application designed to drive awareness of the range of activities in the territory.
The Chinese-language application, titled ‘Hong Kong Fun Challenge’ (http://apps.facebook.com/discoverhk) will promote Hong Kong attractions recommended by locals to visitors. The English version of the website will be launched later this week.

It allows registered users to upload their snapshots of Hong Kong scenery and hip locations. These photos are displayed within a time-based game that asks users to guess their actual location. Finally users can browse and rate each other photos.
The application was created and produced by social application publisher 6waves.com, initially for the Hong Kong public, with the hope to push it to overseas in the second wave. It precedes a broader revamp of the HKTB website that will introduce more community features to the tourism authority’s online marketing.
Facebook has grown rapidly in Hong Kong to become the leading social network. Data released in March by Hitwise put its share of visits within the social network category at 37.7%.
