Greenpeace targets Nestlé and Cadbury

JAKARTA - Greenpeace is plotting action against Nestlé and Cadbury for their role in cutting down Indonesian rainforests for palm oil farms.
The two firms are among the world’s largest buyers of palm oil - used to make toothpaste, soap and chocolate. The non-violent ‘attacks’ will follow a campaign targeting Unilever four months ago.

Two weeks after that campaign broke, Unilever agreed to source palm oil exclusively from land already cleared of rainforest.
Now we want other big palm oil buyers to join Unilever’s calls for a moratorium on buying palm oil from newly deforested areas, said Greenpeace’s Southeast Asia forest team leader Annette Cotter.
The NGO is in private discussions with Nestlé and Cadbury about their palm oil procurement policies. However, Cotter said that public pressure would follow.
Progress is always slower than we want, she added.
