SINGAPORE The Japan Apparel Sewing Machinery Association (Jasma) held its triennial exhibition Japan International Apparel Machinery (JIAM) Trade Show in Singapore, the first time in the event's 24-year history it has been held outside Japan.
JIAM drew 11,982 visitors, a jump in foreign participation from 15% at its Japanese shows to
93% of total visitors at the Singapore edition.
Held in Halls 2 to 4 of Singapore Expo from May 13 to 16, the event attracted 200 exhibitors from 19 countries with about 1,130 booths.
JIAM is one of the world’s top three major apparel machinery trade fairs, attracting leading
manufacturers and suppliers from China, Hong Kong, Italy, Malaysia, Sweden, Sri Lanka,
Taiwan, Thailand and the US.
Themed ‘The Gateway to Advancing Technology from JIAM to the World’, JIAM 2008 displayed the latest machinery, equipment and services.
Besides the country and association pavilions, theme zones focused on marketing, technical and environmental solutions.
An international symposium featured guest speakers from leading organisations.
Managing director of the German Garment and Leather Technology Association, Elgar Straub, said: “JIAM 2008 in Singapore was a good platform to stay in contact with the known garment manufacturers of Southeast Asia, meet new customers and exchange knowledge between the experts.”
Shigeru Tobita, sales and technical manager at Juki Corporation and an exhibitor at the event, said: “This is our ninth time participating at JIAM.
We feel that Singapore is an ideal location to reach out to a growing market because of
its facilities and strategic geographic location.”
The Singapore show was JIAM's first outside of Japan
