are visiting Beijing, according to the Beijing Municipal Tourism Administration. The number of overseas travellers to the capital fell 12.5% in May compared to the same period last year.
The loss in business has been attributed to the Sichuan earthquake, restrictions on visas and the cancellation of several conferences, after restrictions were announced, on events held
prior to, and during, the Olympics.
Destination management companies BTG International Travel & Tours, CYTS and CITS reported a sharp decrease in meetings and incentive trade.
The weak conditions are expected to last until after the Olympics.
