KFC a.m. – the breakfast of failures.
I'm sorry but that genuinley made me laugh out loud and I'm still giggling after the second viewing.
Looks like that could definitely dislocate your jaw trying to eat whatever that is - looks like a fish finger sandwich with bacon?
Hello Brian. What are you doing in a KFC ad?
Puns! Before my very eyes! Who'd have thought. I couldn't stop thinking 'chicken in a bucket, chicken in a bucket, chicken in a bucket..'
What a waste of money....who is seriously going to go to KFC for a breakfast??
I like this advert.
Growing up in the target region myself, I can understand and appreciate the effect the regional puns will have upon the audience. Because of this, I can understand why some individuals who may not have experiences North East life may get lost in their City way of life. I do not however know why anyone would be so ignorant to label the characters within the ad as 'failures'.
It many not be the most out there creatively but, all in all the agency illustrates a key understanding of the audience which leads to an effect ad, which im sure will drive sales. Whay aye..
I'd definitely try it when hungover, but why do fast-food outlets presume we don't eat breakfast after half ten? If you're reading this Ronald, Colonel S, et al... keep breakfast going till half eleven!
It's true. 10.30 is too early to finish serving breakfast. Reminds of a scene in Big Daddy where Adam Sandler loses it in McDonad's as they have stopped serving breakfast because it's 10.31. Very funny ad.
"…the regional puns…"
Eh? Since when is "pull the stops out" or "push the boat out" a regional pun. They are widely-used English colloquialisms, not limited to any one region of the UK. And the characters in the ad are literally failures – as they fail to perform the acts they attempt (with mildly amusing results). What will 'drive sales' is the awareness that the campaign generates that KFC now does breakfast. If that's the sole measure, then the campaign will be a success.
It is funny. I don't think James meant that 'pull out all the stops' was a regional pun but the use of geordies etc will give it a nice local feel. Being from Newcastle I found it funny.
'who seriously eats a KFC for breakfast' - probably not someone who will think hard enough about the ad and conclude these people fail in their tasks therefore I don't like this ad and therefore I wont go there for breakfast.
Anton – agreed, nobody outside the industry will think hard as much about this ad (or any ad) as we all are. And in my first comment, I was actually being sarcastic...
Richard - I thought you were but then you mentioned it in your second post so thought this was a point of contention for you. However, I didn't mean to raise it as a way of conflict with your view just that the people failing is part of the comedy which is what you obviously meant.
April - awful assessment
As a strict Vegetarian, it's really not easy to make me raise a smile with a chicken advert - but it did.
I went into KFC today..and..well, am I the only one who feels that the smell of chicken puts me off a bacon and sausage sarnie?
I like it. I'll never have KFC for breakfast, unless it's leftovers from a drunken night out.
Likewise on the veggie front.
Today I am going to punch the air and say I like that.
Very good. Lets have a beer next time I'm over Mr Hatfield.
ya know what - it created a giggle, surely what they were going for? :)
