Netto debuts reward tokens

by Staff, Marketing 07-Oct-08, 08:00

LONDON - Discount retailer Netto is looking to benefit from consumers reining in their spending with the launch of its first national rewards programme.

The scheme offers customers the chance to collect a range of stuffed toy dogs in return for in-store points.

The 13-week in-store programme, handled by The Continuity Company (TCC), will run across the chain's 189 UK stores. With six designs to collect, the toys can be claimed in stores in exchange for 40 saver tokens.

Shoppers receive one token for every £5 spent at Netto, so would need to spend £1200 in 13 weeks to get all six toys.

TCC has created point-of-sale material, including shelf barkers and till prompts, as well as an online presence.

Not sure that receiving stuffed animals in return for spending £1200 is really that great an offer!! I would imagine its highly unlikely that any shopper will convert to/stay loyal to Netto simply to receive a stuffed dog toy. If anything, it just makes me less likely to shop there - tacky.

How long would it take to rack up a £1200 spend in Netto anyway?
