Loyalty goes local as Caterham launches card scheme
LONDON - The town of Caterham (population 20,957) is launching its own loyalty card in a bid to encourage people to support their local shops as the recession bites.
Thirty-two businesses have joined the scheme, including local branches of national chains Waitrose, Dolland & Aitchison and Wimpy.
Other members include hairdresser's Touche and Amber Room, Westway Butchers, Swift Windows, and piano shop Vivace.

Rather than collecting points, holders of the Caterham Smart Card will be eligible for offers such as discounts of 20%, giveaways, promotions and vouchers for monthly draws.
People can apply for the card either online at Shopsmartcaterham.co.uk or by completing a paper application form.
The founder businesses have secured support from the local newspaper, the Caterham Independent, which will carry application forms this week.
They have also come up with a launch competition consisting of a prize draw for a drive around Caterham in a Caterham RS500 sports car.
