LONDON - The Mail on Sunday is launching a record label in a bid to provide a platform for original music and snatch the Christmas number one.

Mail on Sunday Sounds (MOSS) is set to release the ACM Gospel Choir single Holy Night as its debut foray into the music industry.

Speaking to Music Week, The Mail on Sunday editor, Peter Wright, said: "With a newspaper we are used to making decisions very quickly and turning things around very quickly.

"There are some wonderfully talented people in the music industry, but I think they are a bit traditional in their thinking."

His main aim is to bring something fresh to the music industry.

The Holy Night single will be available to download, and production of the music video is already underway.

The group’s debut album, Christmas With The Choir, will be released on 14 December and will be offered as a free giveaway with the paper.

Is he serious? Sounds like a terrible move, you're already in one sinking ship with a flagging newspaper, why would you branch out into the tanking music industry. And Gospel music? Wow.

Its no big news- The Daily Mail have been putting out dub plates of psy trance for years now- they are pretty big on the underground acid scene.

What a fantastic idea. There is not enough new talent being given a chance on the music industry . ACM Gospel Choir are fantastic and deserve to be heard and for me it is refreshing to see a group of young people who are singing uplifting and positive songs with the real christmas message instead of having the x factor single \( which will still undoubtably reach number one) forced upon us. Surely the more outlets for popular music the better it is for both the artists and the public. The music industry may not be too pleased though as it may affect their control.
