LONDON - Intel has launched a design challenge, called the Digital Drag Race, which pits designers against each other in a head-to-head to create the best animations in under one hour.

The designers must create a 17-second video based on the theme of speed, power or innovation using three required assets -- one video, one music file and one vector image.

Racers have one hour to create the videos using Adobe's Creative Suite 4 on a computer powered by the Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition, Intel's latest chip.

The Digital Drag Race site includes professional videos of the design races along with a user-generated section in which amateur designers can submit their videos and a You Tube channel where all the videos are hosted.

Mike Kanfer, business development director at Adobe, says in a blog post on the site: "Before I became a VFX supervisor, I was a compositor and editor, so I have a special place in my heart for artists who do great work with our tools, especially the ones who can work at lightning pace and make it all look so easy!

"I was excited to be asked by Intel to come on board for a few days as a Digital Drag Race judge, and had a great time critiquing the work and meeting the artists afterwards."

I've seen this style before, and this is a great piece of marketing.
