3 offers prizes and cash to promote PAYG

LONDON - Mobile network 3 is offering consumers cash and prizes in an effort to raise the number of people who hold its pay as you go sim cards.

3 has launched a prize draw for an expenses-paid trip to New York. To enter it 3 customers need to persuade more than five friends to order a free sim card from the network.

Those who sign up the five friends during October will receive two entries to the competition. The winner will be announced on December 7.

The promotion is part of 3’s ‘Free Agent’ initiative that was launched last month that will see the network pay customers to promote its sim cards to friends.

The ‘free agents’ will receive £5 cash for every friend that tops up their sim for the first time. Additionally the friend will also receive a free £2 phone credit.

PAYG deals have become more popular during the recession with worried consumers switching to the schemes once their existing contract has run out.
