Getting Robbie Williams to appear at the 2005 British Comedy Awards proved a fillip to the event's profile, but the move came at a cost.
Williams was secured with the understanding he would hand out an award to celebrity friends Ant and Dec. It has subsequently emerged after an Ofcom investigation that ginger comic Catherine Tate actually won the public vote.
