Media: The Editor's Desk - Andrea Turton, CBeebies Special
- What is the magazine about?
CBeebies Special Magazine is a new, monthly publication that will focus
on a different CBeebies show or theme each issue. It gives children the
opportunity to thoroughly explore a new or popular brand in a one-off
ADVERTISEMENT
- At whom is it targeted?
Preschoolers aged two to five. The demographic will vary with each issue
depending on the character or theme. Parents and grandparents will be
buying it.
- What differentiates it from rivals?
The preschool magazine market is fiercely competitive so there are
always plenty of rivals. But with a new CBeebies favourite every month,
the content will be fresh and exciting. Plus every issue is a gift
edition - the first issue, which focuses on the characters from the 3rd
& Bird show, features a cute Bird play set and karaoke DVD. The second
special will feature festive fun with Wibbly Pig, which children will
know from CBeebies and preschool picture books.
- What are your plans for the title?
We've got some really exciting issues planned for 2010 that will tap
into some popular new programmes on the CBeebies channel.
- Of which feature are you most proud?
It's amazing to see how much has come from CBeebies Weekly. I was the
editor at the time of launch, and now CBeebies Special has grown from
it. I'm really looking forward to releasing our Christmas edition with
Wibbly Pig, too - that issue was great fun to work on.
- PR pet peeves
Being contacted about things that are irrelevant to our readership - and
sometimes very inappropriate.
- Media must-haves
I regularly read Easy Living and Good Food, and I always enjoy the
Observer Magazine and Observer Woman. I'm a fan of property programmes
and am really enthralled by Masterchef at the moment. And then, of
course, there's always a good helping of CBeebies thanks to my
two-year-old son.
