Windows 7 bundled with Sky's on-demand television service

LONDON - Windows 7, the Microsoft operating system launched yesterday, is being sold preloaded with Sky Player, Sky's video-on-demand service.

Sky Player, now part of the Windows Media Center in the UK, allows Sky subscribers to watch live streamed channels and on-demand television on their computers.

People who don't have Sky television subscriptions will be able to buy an online only account to access premium content. Sky Player will also be available on the Microsoft games console Xbox Live.

Griff Parry, director of on demand at BSkyB, said: "We are committed to giving our customers more choice and flexibility in how they access Sky content.

"Sky Player in Windows 7 offers yet another innovative and attractive way through which to access a wide range of live and on-demand TV."

Windows 7 has broken Amazon's pre-order sales records with more people buying a copy before it was released than for the last book in the Harry Potter series.

Microsoft is aiming to get back to profit growth after the disappointing reaction to its last operating system release, Windows Vista.
