The Training Drain

Training has dropped down the list of priorities for marketers in the past few years – partly down to smaller teams and the increased time pressures. This feature will address how this can be tackled with a focus on what training clients can receive from their existing agencies and trade bodies. It will also assess the issue of apathy towards training amongst senior marketers and how it can be addressed. Contact janesimms@btinternet.com

Marketing Leagues: Design

Our annual design league table ranks design agencies according to their financial performance over the past 12 months. The accompanying feature looks at the key issues affecting the design sector, from packaging and corporate identity to web design and retail. How central are design agencies to the marketing mix? How do they justify their place at the marketing table? Contact scott@scottbillings.co.uk for editorial or richard.abbott@haymarket.com for league enquiries

Revisiting Green

Have marketers overestimated the impact of environmental concerns on consumers purchase habits?

Research from IPC reveals that while 95% of consumers say that the environment is 'everyone's responsibility'. Yet only just over 40% think its 'my responsibility'. The research suggests the environment is not the top concern when making shopping choices - instead they are based on time and money. Supermarkets such as Waitrose, M&S and now Morrisons have put the environment and CSR at the heart of their marketing activity. In the case of M&S even charging consumers for plastic bags this feature will examine if this strategy could backfire. And ask if consumers only want to be green if it is cheap and convenient to do so?

Special report: Contact Centres

This feature will examine the pros and cons of running your call centre in-house, comparing them with the benefits of outsourcing it to a specialist agency. How do you measure the performance of your contact centre? How do contracts work between clients and outsourced centres – and how do clients ensure ROI in the deal? In addition, this feature will look at how contact centres are dealing with demands to communicate with consumers across multiple channels, rather than just the telephone. How do you successfully integrate different channels into the customer experience? Contact Rob McLuhan mcluhan@btinternet.com

Loyalty Marketing

With the rising cost of living high on consumer’s agenda how are loyalty schemes adapting. Do consumers value price over rewards given at a later date? This feature will look at developments and innovation in the loyalty marketing industry. Taking a case study approach it will look at what loyalty schemes can offer businesses and ask if businesses need to refocus their loyalty schemes on rewarding their customers rather than simply acquiring valuable customer data.

B2B: Marketing to Business Travellers In a downturn

Earlier this year Whitbread’s Premier Inn budget hotel chain stated it had seen a surge in bookings with ‘more savvy’ business travellers staying in £50 a night rooms in the wake of the economic downturn. This feature will look at the increasing cost-awareness amongst business travellers and ask if we are witnessing the birth of a new section of the no-frills travel fraternity. It will ask what this means to advertisers and the broader travel industry?
