Since it launched last year, it has received more than 75m download requests, with the average number of requests in the last fortnight of May hitting 716,000, a record for a two-week period.
The iPlayer launch beat off competition from Facebook, the Apple iPhone debut, Eurostar's move to St Pancras and Cadbury's 'Gorilla' ad to scoop the title.
