Alcohol trade body backs alliance for rights of moderate drinkers

LONDON - The Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) is behind a campaign aimed at consumers who are concerned about overzealous restrictions on the promotion of alcohol.

The Responsible Drinkers Alliance (RDA) claims to represent the 'moderate drinker' and that 'concern over the minority who misuse alcohol often results in limiting the freedoms of the majority.' It aims to give 'responsible consumers' a say in tackling alcohol-related harm.

The WSTA has appointed Folk to create a campaign to promote the organisation and drive traffic to www.responsibledrinkersalliance.co.uk, where visitors can join and enter an online debate.

It also includes a 'drink responsibly' section with links to websites including drinkaware.co.uk and knowyourlimits.gov.uk.

The government is set to make further restrictions on alcohol advertising and supermarket drink promotions. It is also considering imposing a minimum price for a unit of alcohol in England and Wales.

I am sure that there are millions of consumers just waiting to riot over restrictions on the promotion of alcohol. How would life go on as we know it if we didnt have adverts for beer first thing in the morning. The Wine and Spirit Trade Association are worried about the profits of its members, lets not dress it up to be some kind of civil liberties organisation.
