NEW YORK - The New York Post is adding online video and video advertising to its website after signing a deal with online video network Roo Group.

The Roo partnership will allow The Post, which is owned by News Corporation, to create and showcase its own original content, but will also enable it to use Roo's content library and technology platform, which supports advertising services.

Chris Shaw, vice-president of digital media at the New York Post, said: "We believe Roo is the perfect partner for The Post as we continue to develop nypost.com and enhance our users' experience online.

"There is a great demand for video not only from readers but from advertisers, and Roo will meet those desires."

The partnership extends Roo's ongoing relationship with News Corp. Roo already powers online video content distribution and syndication across many News Corp-owned sites including timesonline.co.uk, thesun.co.uk and theaustralian.news.com.au.

Robert Petty, chief executive of Roo, said: "Roo's unique video technology and content library ensures that we'll be able to create an online video experience that will keep visitors on [nypost.com] longer and keep them coming back for more."
