The service will be launched later in 2005 and comes amid growing enthusiasm elsewhere in television for on-demand services, such as HomeChoice and recent announcements from NTL and TeleWest for similar packages.
Sky subscribers will be able to download movies direct to their PCs – and onto TVs, with the right equipment – using broadband services.
It is expected that there will be around 200 films available when the service is launched, while movie distributors will also have to chance to target buffs with trailers available for forthcoming releases.
The other part of the package will see Sky’s vast array of sport coverage available in the same way, giving viewers access to its Premiership coverage, bulletins and archive footage.
