Times Online to extend The Knowledge to mobile phones

LONDON - The Times Online is to make its The Knowledge arts and entertainments listings service available to UK mobile phones users.

The Knowledge Mobile, which is available to subscribers with Wap phones, mirrors the daily updated content on Times Online, giving viewers full access to up-to-the-minute theatre, pop concert, comedy, nightclub, cinema and booking information across the UK.

The service will provide users with information about what's on across the UK by texting TKN to 88010 from a Wap-enabled handset. Users can also retrieve maps on their phones directing them to their chosen venue.

Peter Bale, online editorial director of Times Online said: "The Knowledge is already one of the most successful arts and entertainment supplements, and entertainment listings are ideally suited to the mobile platform."

The Times Online's The Knowledge service costs 25p to download the initial software, but all subsequent searches are free, subject to local network charges.

Zach Leonard, digital publisher at Times Newspapers, said: "The Knowledge Mobile is a truly beneficial way of being able to search up-to-date arts and entertainment information quickly and easily while on the move."

The Times Online announced last month that it planned to enlist football-mad comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner for a series of 10 podcasts for its World Cup coverage, beginning June 9.
