Setanta confirms launch of Setanta Sports News

LONDON - Setanta Sports has officially announced the launch of its new channel, Setanta Sports News. The launch was revealed exclusively in the latest edition of Media Week and is due to occur later this year.

The channel will offer sports fans around the clock coverage of news and views from the sporting world. Setanta Sports News will draw upon the broadcaster's portfolio of sports rights including the Barclays Premier League and the US PGA Tour. It will also cover any other sporting events occurring in Britain, Ireland and around the world.

Setanta Sports News is a joint venture with Virgin Media and in its first instance will made available to over three million cable customers as part of their basic TV package. The channel will replace Sky Sports News on the cable platform, which, along with Sky's other basic channels, was pulled following a row over carriage costs. Setanta aims to make the channel available via satellite and broadband in the future.
