Virgin 1 gains prominence on Sky

LONDON - Virgin Media TV's recently-launched channel Virgin 1 has received a boost after securing one of the most prominent slots on the Sky EPG.

From 20 February, the channel will join the second page of Sky's EPG, in channel slot 121, putting it in close proximity to the four main terrestrial channels.

The move is significant for Virgin Media TV since it moves Virgin 1, pitched as a general entertainment channel, closer to some of the most-watched generalist channels within multichannel TV.

The Living and Trouble families of channels are unaffected by the Virgin 1 change, while the position of all Virgin Media TV channels on other digital TV platforms remains unchanged.

Ah, but they failed to meet their announced plan to go widescreen by end of Jan, in time for flagship show the Sarah Connor Chronicles. In america it was broadcast in HD, 16:9. Here we get it in good old 4:3.

V1 is now apparently slated to go widescreen half way through the series, sometime in March/April... Oh dear!

Blame RedBee Media! Virgin pay them to take care of broadcast and playout.
