Launching on MTV Two on Sunday 16 March at 7pm, the MySpace Chart will feature the best videos voted for by MTV's online users as well as MTV Two's MySpace users.

The MySpace profile will go live on 10 March to build up the votes for the first show. As well as the chart, the 60-minute show will include comments from viewers, video directors and artists.

The vote list will be refreshed on a weekly basis and will comprise up to 40 videos drawn from the MTV Two playlist, as well as videos from specialist slots such as Gonzo Loves and the Rock Chart.

MTV Two will also champion new music by highlighting five new videos, which will feature on both the MTV Two webpage and the MTV MySpace profile.

This is the first time the MySpace audience has created a TV chart playlist. MTV and MySpace recently paired up to find a new presenter for MTV News.

Sounds like a nice idea, but it feels a bit dated for me. In a world where it is possible to know what is the most popular song at 0930 on a Monday morning, and where everyone shares their Top 10, you have to ask the question who this is really for. Is this something that music fans are crying out for? Are we seeing an upsurge in Chart Show listenership across the world? Or are we dealing with something that is to be packaged up and aimed at potential sponsors?

Mind you, something dated to me might be retro chic to others, so I could be wrong...
