by Media Week Media Week 13-May-08

Bauer Advertising, which handles ad sales for Bauer Consumer Media, has appointed Derek Hewitt to the role of radio trading director.

He joins the company from News International where he was client development manager for the last six years. He will report to Adrian Serle, Bauer Advertising radio sales director, and will take responsibility for negotiating all agency radio deals and managing the 20-strong radio trading team.

Hewitt will also be in charge of delivering Bauer Radio's trading strategy, incorporating the development of key relationships with senior agency executives. His start date is currently being negotiated.

Hewitt said: "I see this as an opportunity to combine my strong trading background from my days at Granada, with the business development role I have held at News International for the last six years."

During his time at News International, Hewitt helped to expand its portfolio of clients, brokering large deals with major clients Mars and Kimberly Clark. He was also responsible for coordinating a sales effort around the 2006 football World Cup, which exceeded its £2m target by £5.5m.

Prior to his time spent at News International, Hewitt worked at Granada Television for two years as commercial ventures head, sport and advertiser-funded properties.
