LONDON - Martin MacConnol, chief executive of Wardour Publishing & Design, has taken over as chairman of the Association of Publishing Agencies from Sean King, director at Seven Squared.

During King's 12-month term, the APA "Olive Awards" were launched to recognise creativity within the publishing industry. They were introduced to complement the APA Annual Effectiveness Awards.

Additionally during King's tenure, APA's new business consultancy, APA ASK added more than £30m of incremental revenue to the industry by securing customer publishing spend from brands such as Sony and Shell. Earlier this year, APA also launched its latest research initiative, APA@ to highlight the digital capability of customer publishers.

MacConnol takes over with immediate effect and will hold the role for a one-year term.

The APA is the representative body for customer magazine publishers, under the umbrella of the Periodical Publishers Associate (PPA). It now has 38 members, representing 90% of the customer magazine publisher market, producing publications for more than 500 companies in the UK and internationally.
