Ofcom in the market for new chairman

LONDON - David Currie, chairman of communications regulator Ofcom since 2002, has announced that he will step down after Easter next year.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform will decide on Currie's successor after advertising the post from September this year.

Currie will continue to oversee ongoing issues at Ofcom, such as the future role of public service broadcasting, until his departure, following a six-year tenure at the regulator.

He was Ofcom's first chairman, following its establishment in 2002. He also sits in the House of Lords as Lord Currie of Marylebone.

Currie's deputy, Philip Graf, has been appointed for a further three years in his current role, while Peter Teague, chairman of the Ofcom Audit Committee, will remain in his position for another two years.
