Number of registered domain names tops 20m
The number of registered top-level domain names has topped the 20m mark, according to internet services company Virtual Internet.
LONDON (Brand Republic) - The number of registered top-level domain names has topped the 20m mark, according to internet services company Virtual Internet.
The company counted 20,396,840 registered top-level domain names - .com, .net and .org. Nearly 80% of these are .com, and nearly two thirds of the remaining names are .net.

The news comes as Icann, the organisation which manages domain-name systems, is in the process of licensing new generic top-level domain names, possible names suggested are .shop and .bank.
