Yahoo! Europe has revealed an increase in internet revenues for the third quarter of this year.

Revenue for the period ending 30 September 2000 amounted to pounds 20.59 million (US dollars 29.82m), compared to pounds 18.92m (dollars 28.63m) for the previous quarter.

The latter figure was up 29 per cent on the first-quarter figure of pounds 13.84m, the first time that Yahoo! had issued figures for its European operations.

The portal's worldwide operations, including the US, have reported a drop in numbers of advertisers, because of a downturn in the fortunes of dotcoms.

But according to a spokesperson, Yahoo! Europe has tended to rely less on dotcom advertisers for its revenues.

Last quarter, 47 per cent of Yahoo!'s ad revenues worldwide came from dotcoms, but the company consciously altered that balance because of its concerns over the future of certain start-ups.

Yahoo! reported that in September more than 29 million unique users in Western Europe visited the network. Currently, there are eight localised European sites.

Fabiola Arredondo, managing director of Yahoo! Europe, said: 'Yahoo!

Europe experienced solid growth in all financial and operating areas during the third quarter and is well-placed for growth during the final quarter of the year.'
