AOL to sponsor Madonna tour

US ISP AOL has scooped a major deal to sponsor Madonna's "Drowned" world tour this year for an undisclosed sum.

The agreement, signed with the singer's touring company Bhakti Tours, will see tickets for Madonna shows being sold on AOL -- through a recent deal with Ticketmaster -- before they go on general sale. AOL will also be able to provide exclusive online coverage of Madonna's concerts, her first live tour for eight years.

The ISP will hold onsite promotions at the concerts and will be featured in the Madonna tour book. It will offer its customers virtual backstage passes and provide online content related to the tour, including downloads from the concerts, tour pictures, video clips and interviews.

Madonna is signed to Warner Music, part of the media and internet goliath created out of the AOL Time Warner merger which was completed in January.

Tickets for Madonna's July UK dates sold out in just six hours in April.
