BRANDING: Design Choice - Reebok travel trainer

by GILL GREEN, General manager, DMO, Marketing 12-Sep-02

Trainers - once the sole domain of the fitness fanatic have become a mainstream fashion accessory - even for those who haven't seen the inside of a gym in the past decade.

Nothing is more likely to motivate modernisation of an item than when it is part of a sport or the fashion world.

I'm a little surprised then that the all-new foldable rollable pack-it-in-your-pocket Travel Trainer has taken so long to come about. The trainer is after all the fashion accessory that makes you look and even feel less like the couch potato you are.

I am just pleased someone has come up with a way to fit more into my overnight bag. Everyone knows shoes take up the most room in your bag.

As much as I would like to sound righteous by saying I take my trainers with me wherever I go just in case the mood for a quick run overcomes me I am afraid the space thing is a major deciding factor.

Reebok has just taken the decision out of my hands and space can no longer be an excuse for skiving my exercise responsibilities.

As a brand Reebok has been among the leaders in sportswear innovations with the Freestyle aerobic shoe and of course the infamous Pump range.

Innovation is the key to keeping any brand alive.

As for now, I'm off, trainers tucked neatly away in the pocket of my bag, at the ready should I need to dash.
