LONDON - Trevor Beattie has triumphed over some of London's top names in advertising, including fellow TBWA creative Paul Silburn, to be named the best creative director at the Best of the Best Awards.

The Best of the Best or the BoB Awards are run by the IPA and recognise people working on the most awarded campaigns of the year.

Beattie, who is chairman and creative director of TBWA\London, was recognised for his work on FCUK, the Big Issue, Five, The Sun and PlayStation2. He picked up a second award, which he shared with partner Bill Bungay, for the best creative team for work they created for Five and FCUK.

Other creatives in the running included Dave Droga, former creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi; TBWA's Silburn; Richard Flintham and Andy McLeod of Fallon; D'Arcy's Nick Hastings; Jeremy Craigen and Ewan Paterson of BMP DDB; John O'Keefe of Bartle Bogle Hegarty; Charles Inge of Clemmow Hornby Inge; and Lowe's Paul Weinberger.

In other categories, the director Jonathan Glazer, from Academy, was awarded best commercials director for his work on Stella Artois and Barclays. Pete Mould of BMP DDB was awarded best typographer for his work on Harvey Nichols, The Guardian, Heals, Oxfam and Knorr, and Alison Jackson was awarded Best Use of Photography for her work on Coca-Cola.

TBWA\London's Matt Shepherd-Smith and HHCL/Red Cell's Tanya Livesy shared a new award that recognised the best account handler.

The judging panel was chaired by Lord Puttnam for the first time. He said: "What I found most reassuring is that having first come across most of the work as a 'punter', and liked it, it's nice to feel affirmed that it really was the best work.

"It was very impressive to see the professional sensitivity with which all the work was approached. I believe the BOBs are emerging as a genuinely valuable competition."

It is the second time the BOBs have been held. The awards panel looks at work that has been recognised at all the major award ceremonies, including D&AD, Cannes and the Campaign awards.
