EBay hands £3m account to DLKW for offline debut

Marketing 25-Mar-04

EBay is planning its first foray into above-the-line advertising in the UK, hiring Delaney Lund Knox Warren as its creative agency.

The online auction house handed its £3m ad account to DLKW following a four-way pitch involving Joshua, DFGW and Ogilvy & Mather.

EBay's promotional activity in the UK has to date been confined to online.

But it is planning an extensive campaign in an attempt to grow as a global brand.

It has already used offline advertising in Germany and the US, where its business is handled by San Francisco agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners.

The creative pitch was overseen by Simon Darling, the former Unilever interactive marketing chief, who was appointed group marketing director at eBay last year.

He replaced commercial director Linda Campbell, who returned to the US for a two-year sabbatical last July.

Darling is also overseeing a review of eBay's media planning and buying, currently held by MediaCom (Marketing, February 19).
