Information Commissioner heads up data Power 50
LONDON - The Information Commissioner Richard Thomas has been named as the UK's most powerful person in data in Direct Response's first-ever 'Power 50 in Data' list.
This list represents the most influential people in UK data business in 2004 as chosen by Direct Response and industry experts. It pits the credentials of client database marketers against agency data planners and supply-side practitioners and entrepreneurs.

Thomas earned his ranking due to his role in policing compliance with data privacy legislation and his forthright stance earlier this year on the obligations of the Data Protection Act, after the law was criticised for being over-prescriptive.
Thomas leads the list ahead of dunnhumby chiefs Clive Humby and Edwina Dunn, and their client, Tesco's UK marketing director Simon Uwins. The top five is completed by Experian's David Coupe and Royal Mail's Richard Roche.
