Consumer spend from direct soars
UK consumers bought £27bn worth of goods from direct mail in the 12 months up to September 2004 - an increase of 2.3 per cent on the 2003 figure, according to DMIS.
Thirty-five to 45 year olds spent the most, with the average consumer spending £590. Clothes account for 41 per cent, although the travel sector saw a 260 per cent rise to £3.3bn. DIY products were also up by 162 per cent to £0.5 billion.

A massive north/south divide remains with 73 per cent of all response coming from the north.
