by GORDON MACMILLAN, Campaign 09-Jun-00

Kimberly-Clark has committed itself to a major investment in new media with the launch of its first web presence for its Andrex and Kleenex brands.

Kimberly-Clark has committed itself to a major investment in new

media with the launch of its first web presence for its Andrex and

Kleenex brands.

The FMCG company has appointed the below-the-line agency SMP to handle

the online strategy and launch the websites for the toilet and facial

tissue brands.

SMP will initially create a microsite to support Andrex’s summer

promotion.

This microsite will be further developed in the autumn and will become

the home on the web for the brand.

The agency was appointed following its sales promotion work for Andrex

and Kleenex, which included the highly successful Andrex Beanie puppy

promotion.

Kimberly-Clark will use the two sites primarily to support both previous

and present promotional activities, including its Andrex puppy property

which has proved hugely popular with consumers. The Beanie puppy

promotion alone attracted more than one million applications.

Simon Mahoney, the joint managing director of SMP, said: ’This is a huge

investment in new media for Kimberly-Clark and particularly in terms of

Kleenex. It is part of a three- to five-year strat-egy that will see it

integrate new media with the rest of its marketing activities.’
