Record 7m users visit BBC radio sites during January

LONDON - Nearly 7m users visited BBC Radio websites in January 2005, up 70% on its 2004 figure and the highest ever for BBC Radio.

Radio 3 and Radio 4 broke user records with Radio 3 adding an extra 90,000 users to reach 465,000 listeners and Radio 4 adding an extra 445,000 users to reach 1.25m users by January 2005.


Hip-hop and R'n'B station 1Xtra gave another impressive performance with over 500,000 hours of online listening and 70,000 on-demand requests for its M1X show.

The rise of comedy and drama station BBC 7 continued with monthly unique users surpassing 300,000 for the first time -- double its January total last year.


Showcasing the best of new music talent, 6 Music, broke previous records with a combined online and on-demand listeners reaching half a million. In January 2004 this figure stood at 360,000.


Asian Network's unique users exceeded 160,000 for the first time in January 2005, from a previous high of 93,000 in January 2004.


The most-listened to BBC radio show was Radio 4's 'The Archers' with 456,975 monthly listens. Chris Moyles' 'Radio 1 Breakfast Show' came in second place with 311,625 listens and Radio 4's 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' came in third with 252,618.
