Associated increases circulation of Standard Lite newspaper

LONDON - Associated Newspapers has increased the daily print run of its lunchtime freesheet Standard Lite by 20,000 copies since its launch in December.

The paper, which is effectively the second edition of Associated Newspaper's Evening Standard, now has a circulation of 72,000.

"We've been steadily increasing it by 5,000-6,000 copies at a time since we launched in December," Evening Standard circulation director Chris Spalding said.

He said that the newspaper group was "playing it by ear" in terms of how many more copies to add, and that his team was "testing the elasticity" of the circulation.

Spalding added that there had been no clear effect yet on sales of the paper's full-fat version. "I'd love it to increase the sale of the paid-for. Obviously worst-case scenario it would decrease it, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything either way."
