Cambridge Evening News offers online Sudoku game

LONDON - The Cambridge Evening News has created an online version of Sudoku, the number puzzle that is sweeping the UK and is now offered daily by national newspapers.

The game is playable online and players are able to compete against each other for the best completion times, registered on a live leaderboard.

Jeremy Palmer, the paper's web editor, said: "Sudoku is sweeping the nation but there are very few places to play online.

"Many websites carry a version of the game now but the only way to play is to print it out and use a hard copy. We wanted to offer our readers something different and give them the chance to play against each other online."

A mobile phone version of Sudoku was launched last month and is being promoted by The Times and mobile specialist Bango.

The Cambridge Evening News site offers a new puzzle each day, seven days a week, while the print version of the paper features the same daily puzzle.

Yattendon Investment Trust-owned Cambridge Newspapers recently relaunched the Cambridge Evening News website to include RSS feeds, a messageboard, more sport, lifestyle and business coverage, and different versions for different localities.
