Start-up search engine everyclick.com is to give 50% of its gross revenue to charity.

Consumers who sign up to the service can support a number of causes, including the Meningitis Trust and Save the Children.

Each charity will receive a slice of revenue equivalent to its proportion of supporters among everyclick users.

The search engine, which has been launched by the founders of online marketing agency Click to Client, generates revenue from advertisers on a pay-per-click basis. It has also struck commercial referral deals with a number of brands, including Amazon.

The service will send viral emails to users to generate support. Marketing agency ArthurSteenHorneAdamson has created viral movies featuring the site's mascot, a bright blue, 6ft-tall mouse, which will also appear at a number of summer events.
