LONDON – Fans mourning the end of Candace Bushnell's 'Sex in the City' may find some comfort in the lives and relationships of another bunch of New York women as TV companies vie to pick up the author's new book 'Lipstick Jungle'.

The latest book by the 46-year-old author has been sparking excitement among US TV networks, eager to recreate the success of 'Sex in the City', which was a major hit for Channel 4 and HBO.

Bushell has described the new book as a philosophical look into the lives of three women who all experience success in their 40s after SATC dealt with women in their 30s. The new line of characters comprises a film producer, a fashion designer and a magazine executive.

Victory Ford is the fashion designer, single and attractive and struggling to keep her company afloat.

Nico O'Neilly is the glamorous and powerful editor of Bonfire Magazine who has a mid-life crisis and suddenly realises she needs more in life.

Wendy Healy is the film director who has to decide between her career and her marraige with a competitor who tries to oust her.

The book, to be published by Hyperion on September 5, follows on from the success of Sex in the City, published by Warner Books.

'Sex in the City' enjoyed a six-year run on TV channels across the world and made huge stars of leading ladies Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.

Bushnell said it was too early to say who would play the lead roles if the series were to go ahead.

Recent US television hits with UK audiences have included Desperate Housewives and the latest Channel 4 signing, Lost, which attracted the channel's highest-ever audience for US series launch at 6.4m viewers.
