BBC picks Salmon for Sport

Peter Salmon has been appointed as the BBC's first director of sport and will serve on the BBC's executive committee, the first time that sport has been represented at this level.

As head of BBC Sport, Salmon, former controller of BBC 1, will be responsible for turning the department into a single integrated commissioning and programme making entity which will be a single face for BBC Sport on radio, television and online.

The appointment brings sport into the heart of the BBC decision-making apparatus and the expansion and improvement of sport is known to be a priority for director general Greg Dyke.
