DMA guidelines to advertisers in wake of scares

Advertisers are being urged to use common sense when sending out promotional mailings, to avoid unnecessary panic among consumers and to "help retain the integrity of the direct marketing industry."

Direct Marketing Association director of postal affairs, David Robottom, said: "It's important that the public feel confident that they can go about their daily business as normal, but unfortunately some recent product samples sent through the post have caused unnecessary scares. Because of this, the DMA has issued guidelines to the industry to help ensure advertisers do nothing to alarm people at this time."
