FT launches daily news services

Hill and Dunstone: FT goes mobile

The Financial Times is launching a daily news service for business people via their mobile phones.

FT Mobile was developed with The Carphone Warehouse and will enable users to access stories from the newspaper and its online venture FT.com.

The package being launched offers a choice of WAP-enabled phones and includes personalised SMS text updates on a range of different industries, as well as market reports and company news.

Users will then be able to telephone a number to hear the full stories and can customise their WAP site to prioritise the news and live share quotes they want to receive.

Financial Times Group chief executive Stephen Hill said: "This is the first of several premium services the FT Group will launch this year.

"Our aim is to cut through the clutter and focus on what is important to a business person.

"We have been doing this successfully for more than 100 years in print. Now, using the technology and resources of FT.com and the Financial Times, we can deliver that news direct to your phone."

The so-called "Daily Me" will use the resources of the newspaper, which recently celebrated reaching the 500,000 circulation mark in the latest ABC figures as well as FT.com, which now boasts two million unique monthly users.

Carphone Warehouse chairman Charles Dunstone said: "This partnership with the FT will offer unrivalled financial content ideally suited to the mobile internet."
