Uncut celebrates icons for centenary edition
The world’s biggest music and movie icons will discuss the films and songs that impacted on their lives to mark the centenary issue of IPC Ignite’s Uncut magazine.
REM's Michael Stipe, Bjork and Robert Downey Jr are amongst the contributors in the issue called “100 Rock and Movie icons on the music and films that changed our world”.
Each icon selects their favourite music or film, and includes Paul McCartney declaring his love for Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel and Ozzy Osbourne praising The Beatles’ She Loves You.

The magazine - including a free cover-mounted CD featuring Uncut’s favourite artists - features an ‘iconic’ image of Paul McCartney and Keith Richards together.
Uncut editor Allan Jones said: “It’s a real testament to Uncut that this incredible line-up of music and movie stars have given up their time to contribute to our 100th issue. Their passionate contributions have helped create a truly unique publishing experience.”
Uncut publisher Andrew Sumner said: “The Uncut 100th issue is the culmination of an amazing year for the magazine, which stands at the very epicentre of contemporary modern culture.”
It has emphasised its status as a music and movie magazine by supporting bands such as REM, in addition to sponsoring the NFT’s current Robert Mitchum retrospective.
Uncut’s 100th issue celebrations are culminating with a three-night residency at London’s famous 100 Club next month, featuring gigs by acclaimed music acts.
Ed Harcourt, Kathryn Williams and Sons & Daughters are amongst the artists performing there from August 3 to August 5.
The venue will be a fitting choice to mark the 100th issue anniversary of the UK’s biggest-selling music and movie magazine, having staged concerts for influential rock legends including The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, Roxy Music and Oasis.
Jones said: “The line-up for these celebratory gigs is impeccable. These artists represent some of the finest contemporary talent at work in the UK today.”
Uncut’s 100th issue goes on sale on 4 August, priced £4.20.
