Unilever’s New York-based fragrance manufacturer, Calvin Klein

Cosmetics, has promoted Shelley Smyth to the newly created position of

vice-president, European marketing and sales development.

Her appointment comes amid growing competition in the European market

for perfume - Calvin Klein’s principal non-clothing business.

Smith was previously managing director of Calvin Klein Cosmetics UK

after joining Calvin Klein over two years ago from the Estee Lauder

Group where she held various positions.

Reporting to her will be the soon to be announced European marketing

director, following Jean Purie’s departure earlier this year, as well as

advertising director Trudie Collister.

All of the above will continue to report to Lynne Bonson, senior

vice-president/general manager for Europe.

Last week Calvin Klein announced that it was to hold a media review

between its two incumbents, CIA Medianetwork and Initiative Media.

The account, worth pounds 60m, is currently split, with CIA handling all

pan-European non-broadcast buying and Initiative buying all broadcast

media.
