Future Publishing has entered the fiercely competitive health and beauty magazine sector with the launch of Hair Style & Beauty.

The monthly title, aimed at 20 to 40 year old women, will have an initial print-run for the October edition of 90,000 copies and be published from within Future’s Entertainment Group.

The move marks Future’s first entry into the glossy hair and beauty sector and follows a busy summer for the publisher after its recent acquisition of Spanish Homes Magazines.

Hair Style & Beauty will offer usual beauty tips and fashion advice, but will also feature celebrity pages – beginning with a Hollywood Hair cover mount for the first edition.

Katherine Raderecht, group publisher, said: “Hair Style & Beauty magazine is definitely not just another hair magazine.

“We’re offering consumers a completely new experience in hair and beauty magazines by showing them how to create the look they want in the comfort of their own home.

“Through our own stunning photography and our compelling mix of editorial, Hair Style & Beauty will show how hair, fashion and beauty work together to create a complete look.”

Future’s decision to launch the title was part based on industry data revealing nearly 3.5 million people in the UK regularly read hair and beauty magazines.

Robert Price, managing director of Future Publishing, said: “Launching a hair and beauty magazine for women enables Future Publishing to enter yet another new special interest area, one that continues to grow strongly in terms of consumer interest and magazine sales, fitting in well with our overall publishing strategy – of expanding into new areas.”

“We shall be bringing the usual high editorial standards and visual flair associated with all Future magazines, and we will make our mark with typical vigour and passion.”

Meanwhile, Kerry Lawrence (pictured), a publisher in Future’s Entertainment division, has taken over responsibility for the GamesMaster, NGC and Cheatzone magazines in its Games division.

Lawrence joined the company in 1998 as a market researcher and has been a publisher in the Entertainment division since 2000.

Mia Roberts, Games group publishing director, said: “Kerry’s appointment is great news for Future’s games portfolio.

“As well as being an experienced magazine publisher, she also brings a solid background in marketing and market research to the mix.

“These skills will be particularly vital at this time of growth and new title development at Future.”
