Church uses website and text messaging to push Jesus

LONDON - A website and a 'hero or zero' text messaging poll are the latest tools being used by the Churches Advertising Network to spread the good word about Jesus.

The campaign puts images of Jesus as a radical revolutionary at its heart, and will direct people to the website rejesus.co.uk. Along with the URL, the posters invite people to text "hero" or "zero" to a number to vote on what Jesus means to the world today. The red, black and white image runs with the words: "Dec 25th. Revolution begins. Celebrate the birth of a hero."

A radio advertising campaign, voiced by the BBC DJ Simon Mayo, will also raise awareness of the website. The ads were created by Radioville and can be heard at churchads.co.uk.


They invite listeners to text their responses to other poll questions, such as "baby" or "revolution"; "God" or "refugee"; and "war" or "peace". The responses will then appear on another website hellojesus.co.uk. It goes live in December.


Francis Goodwin, CAN chairman, said: "Our campaigns continue to be focused on Christ, rather than the church because we've found the best way to engage with people is to talk about Jesus Christ and what he means to people today."
