Telegraph raids Daily Mail for columnist Heffer
LONDON – The Daily Telegraph has lured back political columnist Simon Heffer from the Daily Mail after 10 years.
Heffer will start at the Telegraph in late October, writing two columns a week and going by the title of associate editor.
Editor Martin Newland welcomed Heffer, who gave up the deputy editorship of the Telegraph in 1995 to join the Daily Mail, back to his "natural journalistic home".

"He writes with wit, candour and intelligence and has enormous depths of knowledge. His new columns will be required reading," Newland said.
The appointment of Heffer follows last week's signing of BBC business editor Jeff Randall to write a twice-weekly business column.
It also assuages the Telegraph's anger over the Mail poaching its chief sports writer Paul Hayward in July.
