Corporate TPS rates rise

The Corporate Telephone Preference Service is enjoying high rates of registration and renewal but experts say this is unlikely to be sustained.

More than three-quarters of businesses that registered with the service
when it launched in June last year have chosen to renew for a second
year.

Figures to the end of August reveal that 490,000 businesses have now

signed up, most of them small businesses with fewer than nine employees.

Many larger companies are also continuing to register multiple extension
numbers.

"Renewal rates show that 78 per cent of those who signed up last year
want to stay on the file. This is not surprising," said Tessa Kelly,
director of compliance operations at the Direct Marketing Association,
which runs the service.

"Many companies are using the file. It is working well and is seen as a
very valued service. We have had a very low level of complaints," she
added.

However, Kelly said the number of registrations may begin to plateau in
much the same way as they did for the Fax Preference Service.
