LONDON - Advertising growth is expected to bounce back next year in the UK and hit a peak in 2009, according to a new forecast that looks ahead until 2017.

Figures published today by the Advertising Association predict that over the next 12 years, advertising spend will grow by as much as 43% to £23bn, in the absence of major threats.

Even the most conservative forecast by the AA has growth between 2005 and 2017 at 37%.

Adspend has been hit this year by disappointing growth in the UK economy and a downturn in consumer spending, with the high street being hard hit.

However, the figures, compiled by the World Advertising Research Centre, suggest a recovery next year with annual growth rates then steadily increasing.

The figures include internet and direct mail, along with television, print, outdoor and cinema. The report concludes that although the fortunes of individual media will be mixed, the pattern is for general growth.

The Long Term Advertising Expenditure Forecast is available from WARC.
