HONG KONG – The Wall Street Journal Asia has named Christine Brendle as managing director of the paper and the Far Eastern Economic Review, effective from February 1.

She succeeds Winnie Wong after a 17-year career with the Hachette Filippachi publishing group in Asia, the US and Europe.

From 1995 to 2001, Brendle was president and chief executive officer of Hachette Filippachi Asia Pacific, and from 1993 to 1995 was vice-president Asia Pacific, and managing director Hong Kong and China.

"This appointment signals an exciting new era of growth for the paper, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary, and for the Far Eastern Economic Review, which celebrates its 60th," Penelope Muse Abernathy, senior vice-president international and development for The Wall Street Journal, said.
